Vocabulary

given up on

Hello, I'm looking for an appropriate verb which can substitute this phrasal verb. If you think the phrasal is OK, please let me know. I need a verb with the meaning: abandoned, withdrawn from, stepped out of?

Negotiators can always have various manuals at hand which explain standard conditions of contracts and advise when they (contracts) should be given up on.

Thank you in advance
