Given by vs. given through
Hello, some time ago I was asked wether the following sentence in a math paper is correct: "...thus, the optimal value is given through (expression)", and I said that I'd rather use "given by". Since then, I've encountered the conbination "given through" quite a few times in different contexts, and now I'm asking myself wether both are correct... What do you think about that? Thank you very much!
