Give/Give away

What is the difference between to give and give away? Thanks for your help

I talk to companies all over the world. No matter where I go, I always find that successful companies and successful employees have mastered the same four things when it comes to taking care of customers. The first thing they do is give away pickles. They make people happy. In other words, they’ve made serving others their number one priority.

To 'give away' suggests giving something without expecting payment or anything in return. It is being given as an extra, on top of any other things.
