give up /give in

do they both mean the same?

i do get a feeling that there is some difference but i just cant figure that out. so any reply (with loads of examples) would be greatly appreciated.

but what i really wanted to know was if they were interchangeable. (does this sentence sound ok?)

as in:
1) never give in; and
2) never give up
dont they mean the same?

i was actually looking for the ones where they could be interchanged without affecting the meaning. ( couldn't think of anything good though :

It depends mostly by the context they are used in... However, to me, give up has a "stronger" meaning, you you get me...

My two cents.

"give in" requires another person who is trying to persuade you to do something you don't want to do -- or trying to persuade you to allow something. If you give in, it means you change your mind and do what was requested.

"give up" does not require another person. You may be working on a mathematics problem or you may be working on some plumbing repairs
