Give one's life for one's country ?

Dear All ,

If I would like to express a person who pass away for his home comntury(eg.in War),which of the following is better? OR Do you guys have any other suggestion ?

Options:

1.Commit suicide one's life for his country

2. die/give one's life for one's country

Devote one's life to country means that the person dedicated his life to his to his country but it doesn't necessarily mean that he passed away or died
