Give me

When do I have to use "give to sb" and when "give sb". For example:
"I gave the keys to her because she had to go home before me"
"I gave the keys her because she had to go home before me" (X , i think)
"I gave her the keys because she had to go home before me"
"I gave to her the keys because she had to go home before me"

What of the above are OK? Thanks

I can't give you a whole and thorough answer, but it often has to do with the emphasis you want to put. , "Give me the keys" is rather neutral. But "give the keys to me" means to me and not to X, Y or Z (who are around us).

What about "he gave to the pretty brunette beside him the key"?
I know it sounds weird but it seems to be grammatically correct, doesn't it?

I'd say he gave the key to etc...
I'm not sure it's correct: the complement introduced by "to" has to come second
