Give in\up

What's the difference between "give in" and "give up"?
I just note that give up is kind of more absolute :\

For me, to give in means to accept, or to crumble under the assault; I understand that the opponent is stronger than I am. To give up is to quit, I decide not to struggle anymore, I let go, but from my own decision.

Pieanne is completely correct. "give in" is "stop resisting" whereas "give up" is "stop trying".

To me, the term, "give in" means to defer to a person or situation, most likely after trying to 'hold one's own' for a while. I think the term, "give up" means to quit or halt all efforts after having exerted some effort. "Persevere" might be the opposite for for "give up?" Both terms (give up) (give in) seem to imply that one finally takes 'the path of least resistance.' I am not an expert h
