I NEED an explainer...can somebody explain about give away? Idiom/Pharasal verbs must have it reason to be called so, right?
The multiple choice format in tests is common but it is important to ensure that the alternatives in a multiple choice test format perform their task of distracting students from the correct answer. However, it is not always easy to find suitable alternatives especially when tests are not authentic and do not actually measure what they seek to measure. Sometimes, the questions are valid but the alternatives are a sure give-away. This is the main problem for multiple choice test constructors.
The alternatives are a sure give-away = the alternatives are very obviously the wrong answers. 'Give-away' = revelation: they give away their real identity to the reader.
