Give a pat on the back

Is the expression "give a pat on the back" used for greeting?

Top answer

Hi No, not usually. A pat on the back on the back is usually given when a person has done well - it's a sign of congratulation. We do, of course, make a similar gesture when we greet someone, but that's not a pat on the back.
