Girl With A Pearl Earring

0 Has anyone seen the film 'Girl With A Pearl Earring'? It's based on a story about the painter Vermeer and stars Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth. I think the cinematography is AMAZING! 0-

0 Vermeer's painting - see for example: www.dutchmuseumshop.com/foto/vermeer/parel.html - shows only one earring. The film is the story (fiction) of how this painting was actually the portrait of the family's servant girl, who had one ear pierced for the painting and one pearl earring was borrowed from Vermeer's wife (caused a lot of trouble later!) 0-

0You bet that his wife was jealous of her. She was goregous, especially her red lips and her eyes. She looked kind of young. Her clothes did not seem like a servant's clothes. 0-

0 No, you're right. She was - at least in the film - dressed up for the portrait. And yes you're also right about the wife! In the film she becomes extremely jealous!02br
00Just to give a bit of extra background: Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) was one of Holland's most famous painters. What stunned me about this film was that it was as if I was looking at his paintings come-to-life.
