Ever heard the expression "Ghost town?"

When a city/town is completely abandoned by all of its residents it's referred to as a ghost town. Buildings are still in fine condition, there may even be bicycles on the streets. It's as though ghosts are living there.

So it says that downtown was just a memory, a place where in the past people used to go and sit in jazz clubs and dance somewhere else, but now it's no longer like this.
