getting India off

After bowling the Australians out for a paltry 268 runs, Team India openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are adding to the visitors agony by getting India off to a flying start.

Could you explain what "get off" means here?

Also I think here "visitors agony" refers to "Australian players' agony". Am I correct?
