Can I say,

(a) John saw a lady falling down. Two men came to help the lady up.

(b) Two men helped the lady to stand up.

(c) Two men helped the lady to get up.

To me, both "get up" and "stand up " can be used. As for a, I think it is wrong.

Can I say,

(a) John saw a lady falling down. Two men came to help the lady up. OK, but can you think of a way to avoid repeating 'lady'?

(b) Two men helped the lady to stand up. OK, but #3 is better and more common.

(c) Two men helped the lady to get up.

Words often go in 'pairs'. man/woman, lady/gentleman. I'd say 'woman' here, be

Thanks Doll for pointing that out. I would not use it but it doesn't sound bad to my ear. Can it really replace stand up?
