In daily life, when we give a narration of an event, talking about the past, can we still use the simple present tense 'get told'?

-We get told to sit down.... (not got)

If that is the general tense of the narration, certainly.

"We were told . . . " is probably more common.

In news, I've heard several times this:

-We get told (that) if we want to have a good view of the harbour, we have to come early.

This 'get told' followed by a that-clause is not the same thing as the one I mentioned in the first post.

1. Do you think 'get told' can be used because

No, MM did not. He said 'get told' is possible when the general tense is the present tense (=the present tense is used throughout the entire narration talking about a past event); but this statement does not solve the problem as to whether 'get told' and 'got told' are the same when, for example, someone asks us why we are here, to which question we might reply by saying that 'we get/got told that

You cannot use 'get told' in that case.
