Get THE Feel or Get THE Feel

Is it "to get a feel" or "to get the feel"?

If both are possible, do they mean the same thing?

If not, when should I use each of them?

Would you please give me a few examples?

Also, is "for" the right preposition to use in both of the above phrases?

Thank you.
