Get stuck in ruts

Hello,
I'm not sure about the meaning of "get stuck in ruts".

I looked up in the dictionary, which translated ruts as deep narrow dark mark on a soft surface.
This translation does make much sense in this context.

I guess the meaning of this phrase is get stuck in little troubles?

Thanks for answering

, until often times a 'rut' is formed. It is nearly impossible to get out of this rut, at least until the mud dries. When a person is in a rut, he can go forward or backward, but it makes little difference.
