Get so much as a scratch here.

Hi, i know what does scratch meaning (as what i found in my dictionary), but i dont get the meaning of it in this sentence... I'ts about someone who talking about his commander in Vietnam war

"He was one of those guys that had that weird light around him.
You just knew he wasn't gonna get so much as a scratch here."
