5C says, "always followed by an adverb." Is "places" an adverb?

Come to think of it, the woman might have not meant what I understood. My apologies.

As you implied, "getting places" does mean "getting to places", i.e. travelling to places. I would say it is an idiomatic expression. You cannot substitute arbitrary nouns for "places".

There’s also the very common go places, which as well as having a literal interpretation is also an idiom meaning “become successful”.

Is it okay to say "We have different ways of getting around" instead of "We have different ways of getting places"?
