Get over with

Some people often say: let's get this over with or let's get it over with?

I just don't get it. Is there anyone explain its meaning?

Thanks a lot.

It means to complete something that is unpleasant or something that you don't like doing. You don't enjoy doing the thing but you want the end result (or someone else does). I was applying for a visa this year and it was difficult and complex and I wanted to do something else.

Think of the thing you don't want to do as a hill, and the expression makes more sense.
