get involved in/take part in/be connected with their argument.

I didn't want to get involved in their argument.

Hi,

Is it proper to replace "get involved in" in the above with "take part in/be connected with" without making a change in meaning? Thanks.

"take part in" would raise the register, but not change the meaning. "be connected with" changes the meaning slightly, being more like "be associated with". ) CJ

"be connected with" changes the meaning slightly, being more like "be associated with". Here you might take part in the argument, but not want anyone to know that you took part because you don't want "to be connected with" it (if, for example, a story about it is to be printed in the local newspaper!)
