Get interesting/interested in it?

My friend has made two sentences: Tom collects coin. He gets interesting in it.
But I don't think "interesting" would be correct. I would change it into "interested". But he has said that both are acceptable. What do you think?

"Interested" (past participle) is the correct choice. I'm not sure of the analysis of it. " I guess it seems like I'm ducking the question, since both choices are participles acting as adjectives.

"Interested" (past participle) is the correct choice. I'm not sure of the analysis of it. I'd say "gets" = "becomes" and I think an adjective complement is called for, in the manner of "He seems interested in it," rather than "He seems interestiing in it."

I guess it seems like I'm ducking the question, since both choices are participles acting as adjectives. "The game is interesting."
