'get injured' vs' get an injury'

Could you tell me what the difference is between the following sentences? Thank you in advance.

A. He got seriously injured on his leg.

B. He got an heavy injury on his leg.

Top answer

"on his leg" seems unnatural, and "heavy injury" is also not tremendously natural to me. Natural ways to say this are "He seriously injured his leg" or "He suffered/sustained a serious leg injury" ("sustained" is a bit more formal). You can also say "He suffered/sustained a serious injury to his leg".
