Get furtive

"My dog always gets furtive when she is about to steal one of my dad's carrots. She sort of crouches down and then disappears among the plants."

Could I use 'get furtive' in this example?

Thank you.

The duller version is 'My dog acts/behaves furtively ...'

Emotion: dog
