I am getting behind on my target, so I am unhappy.

Suppose, on Monday, I was planned to complete some work by Saturday. So, by Thursday I should have completed the half of my work otherwise I am behind my target.

I mean, by this sentence, that my brother won't study as I expected if he choose the subject because he is weak in that particular subject.

ok. 'get behind' in studies or work doesn't just mean do poorly, it means that you have fallen behind your schedule. So, perhaps you should have read 3 books and written 9 essays about them, but you've only managed to read 2 books and write 4 essays. So it's hard to predict that someone will 'get behind' in something they haven't even started yet.
