get back to my roots

Hi,

Is there an expression saying I am going to follow my family's footsteps like "I am going to my old roots?"

Is that correct? If I said I want to become what my dad does, can we use this expression?

thanks!

The expression is "go back to your roots". Note, however, that "follow in someone's footsteps" is different from "go back to your roots".
