Hi teachers.
I am having a hard time understanding the difference between 'go around' and 'get around' in this case.
Can I use them interchangeably?
* Go around : if https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/news, a https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/story, a https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/joke etc is going around, a lot of people https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/hear it and are https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/talk about it
EX) A rumour was going around that I was having an affair with my boss.
* Get around : if or https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/information gets around, it is https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/tell to a https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/lot#lot__7 of people
EX) Word got around that the department might be closed.
Thanks in advance~
As I hear them they are slightly different. 'go around' is a more neutral statement of what is happening, and 'get around' is more a case of information out of control, information that was originally intended to be kept secret. However, the difference is slight, so in many situations you might use either expression with no significant change in meaning.
