Get a pass on

Hi

I'm not sure if such a phrase even exists:

They [get a pass on] paying taxes because they donate to charities a lot.

Would such a phrase (if it exists in English) mean - "they don't have to pay any taxes because..."?

Thanks

This phrase does exist in English and you have used it correctly here. I'm not sure that anyone gets a pass on taxes though. Perhaps you mean that they can get a deduction on their taxes for charitable contributions.
