Gestures of sodden collapse?

Hi, So this is an excerpt from White Noise "I’ve witnessed this spectacle every September for twenty-one years. It is a brilliant event, invariably. The students greet each other with comic cries and gestures of sodden collapse. Their summer has been bloated with criminal pleasures, as always. "

Can someone please tell what "gestures of sodden collapse" means?

Thank You

Hi The word 'sodden' can just mean that the people are very wet. However, it can also mean that they've used a lot of alcohol. In a context where people are gesturing, collapsing and bloated with criminal pleasures, I'm going for the second meaning.
