gerunds as adjectives.

Can we use gerunds as adjectives like the sentence below.

I joined a team believing. What else can we use as adjectives?

Top answer

Anonymous I joined a team believing. This is not a coherent thought. Moreover, gerunds are used in a sentence where nouns are used, not adjectives, so "gerunds as adjectives" is as strange as "2, 4, and 6 as odd numbers".

AnonymousI fell asleep reading.
This is a very frequently asked question.

There is some controversy about whether 'reading' should be called an adjective or an adverb in such structures. The best description I've ever read of it is that it is a subject oriented secondary predicate. (1. I feel asleep. 2. I was reading.)
