Gerund with "prefer"

#1 The management would prefer you finishing the project on time.

As I know we use gerund with verb "prefer". So sentence seems correct but Book has replaced it with phrase "that you finish" (The management would prefer that you finish the project on time).

I don't know what reason behind it.
