Gerund or infinitive

Hi.

I have been taught that see is a state verb and we cannot use the continuous form except of some c ircumstances.

I would be thankful if you could let me know if we have to used infinitive or gerund form of see in the foloowing sentence.

On the day I managed to open my eyes I could not believe what I was seeing. That beautiful angel was looking at me with a bright smile that pushed her round bulging cheeks up a little making the glow in her eyes shine even brighter with joy and kindness
