Gerund or default noun form

Question

Could you tell me which form is better over the other?
1. Your appearance pleased us very much.

2. Your appearing pleased us very much.

a. We are going to close the store for 2 days for celebrating Chinese New Year.

b. We are going to close the store for 2 days for the celebration of Chinese New Year.

The first one your appearance .... is correct
In the other set both are correct however the second one sounds not very common.

Sentences 1 and @ are both grammatical. Sentence #2 means "the fact that you appeared please us." Sentence #1 could mean exactly the same thing, or it could mean "the way you look pleased us."

In the second pair of sentences, (b) is fine but (a) is not. We would say, "we are going to close the store... to celebrate..."
