Gerund or default noun form

Could you tell me which form is better over the other?
1. Your appearance pleased us very much.

2. Your appearing pleased us very much.

a. We are going to close the store for 2 days for celebrating Chinese New Year.

b. We are going to close the store for 2 days for the celebration of Chinese New Year.

Sentences 1 and @ are both grammatical. Sentence #2 means "the fact that you appeared please us." Sentence #1 could mean exactly the same thing, or it could mean "the way you look pleased us."

In the second pair of sentences, (b) is fine but (a) is no
