Just wandering if there is a rule when we put ferund and when infinitive

After verbs such as " want ", " need ", " desire "and " have ", use " to infinitive ". i.e.
I have to work this weekend.
You need to clean your room.
I want to go shopping today.
Using gerund would be incorrect in these cases.
