Gerund

Are these sentences correct:

1) Criminals were brought here for hanging.
MEANING: Criminals were brought here to be hanged.

2) Computers are taken to the technical service for repairing.
MEANING: Computers are taken to the technical service to be repaired.

Don't use the gerund. What is it with learners and the gerund, anyway? It is seldom used as an object of a preposition. Save it for subjects and non-finite clauses.

They don't sound good at all even though they may be technically correct. There may be other sentences where "for ... -ing" works well at the end as you've done here (e.g., the play title "The Lady's not for Burning"), but these are not cases where it works.
