Hi,
I have asked this question in two different forums but still I am confused and I have not understood the native English speakers' answers very well.

This is my question:

1. Why can't B work? One native English speaker said that B is wrong because "geometrically expanding flat space" doesn't describe the universe.
I know it doesn't describe this universe, but what makes it not describe this universe?
What is odd with "geometrically expanding flat space"? If what does it mean that it can't describe the universe?

Thank you.

The sentence needs a noun or a noun phrase, which is what A is. The problem with B is the word 'is' at the end. To make B a noun phrase, you'd have to delete 'is'.

I want to know why the first one doesn't make sense.

I told you why the grammar is incorrect with choice B..
