Geography Olympics

If you want to test your knowledge of geography, this site is a good place to start:
http://www.geographyolympics.com/
Click on Join Now!, select the country you are representing, and see if you can locate the ten randomly selected countries on the world map in the time allocated. Nicely done, and it'd be fun if you're not a geo dummy like I am. You can take the quiz up to three days a day.

To see how players from your country rank in comparison with other world players, http://www.geographyolympics.com/leaderboard.php takes you to their scoreboard directly.
The US comes in, at present, at a surprisingly high 19, whereas the UK is in the rather dismal position of 139. Ireland is doing only slightly better, which also surprised me when compared their rank with that of the US. Perhaps Americans aren't as worldly-unwise as they are sometimes portrayed to be.

That NZ thing worries me: it wouldn't count my score towards Aus's ranking, falsely claiming I'd entered before. It's a fix, I reckon: apart from software tinkering, the whole thing is bound to be weighted in favour of

[nq:1]The above isn't necessary, it seems. We-e-ell, knowing the locations of countries on a map doesn't necessarily make one "worldly wise", and the geography curriculum in the UK reflects a more modern approach to geography teaching.[/nq]
