Gentlemen jock

I was listening to Bobby Darin singing 'Guys and Dolls', and I was wondering what he means when he sings 'the rock [a girl's diamond in hock] is going to restock a gentlemen jock'. What is a 'gentlemen jock'?

(Just in case it sounds as if I haven't got it right which happens often, but not in this case, I think the song is here:
and the sentence in question starts at 1:11).

Sorry for the sentence that has ended up crossed out (I just meant to write it between dashes, and since I don't know how to write dashes here I used hyphens).

Hello Clive,

Thank you very much for your elaborate answer. Now I can understand clearly what it is about. My dictionary redirected me from 'jock' to 'jockstrap', and that seemed quite weird, to say the least.

That's hilarious. I've got nothing to add, except that if you wanted to make fun of a jock you could call him a 'jockstrap' and probably get a lot of laughs:)

The only sense I could make of it was that the girl had pawned her diamond, and that since she was not going to redeem it, it would be sold to a gentleman who would use it to replace some other diamond of his that had been lost. What kind of gentleman would use a jockstrap decorated with diamonds, I don't know. But this obviously wasn't what was intended to be conveyed by the song!

I take it to mean that she has pawned a diamond (given to her by somebody else) to subsidise the life style of a subsequent lo

Yes, fivejedjon, I can see it clearly now. That was the story I made up when I first heard the song (which was clearly incorrect, and that's why I decided to come and ask). Thank you very much!
