General Question

Dear Experts,
Which is correct?

1> I wish I "was" there.
2> I wish I "were" there.

Other instances :

1> I wish he was/were here.
2> I wish she was/were never here.

If one of the 2 is correct, is it always that way in these types of sentences? Kindly let me know.

Sincerely,
Prasanna
