Dear Sirs

Please help me with the following:

Q. It is a week since I .......... him.
     a. saw   b. have seen   c. am seeing   d. had seen

I saw this question in a grammar text.
In my knowledge,  "It has been a week since I saw him" is correct.

But, what about this question?
Is this construction correct?
If so, can't we use both "saw" and "have seen" here?

Both "saw" and "have seen" are correct there. Throughout most of the last few hundred years "saw" has been used more commonly than "have seen" according to Google Ngrams. See the link below.
