Hello,
Does UK English permit to say "try your level best"?

I have often heard people say this, especially Indian people.

Thanks,
Prasanna

Yes.

Its origins may be from US English though.

Really! If it is "may", that means you are not sure, right?
I've never heard the use of the expression before in my entire life in the US.
We say: " Try the best you can ", or " do the best you can " though.

Dimsumexpress,

Origins are not always agreed on - evn by dictionary compilers.

The Oxford English Dictionary - a Bible for the language, thinks it came from over there to here.

I am not sure as I was not around when it was first used or in vouge.

Whoever said it first, it is also common in AmE. I use it myself.
