Geert Hofstede Cultural Dimensions

Hi,
I have a question which I think may not be very suitable to post here, but I have to because I don't know where else to post. Please excuse me:

I wonder about the fifth dimension of Geert Hofstede's five cultural dimensions: Long-term Orientation. Here is what it says on the website:

Values associated with Long Term Orientation are thrift and perseverance; values associated with Short Term Orientation are respect for tradition, fulfilling social obligations, and protecting one's 'face'.

I can understand the values associated with long term orientation - people are thifty and persevere for future prosperity or success. But I don't understand why values associated with short term orientation are not the opposite. It seems to me that "respect for tradition, fulfilling social obligations, and protecting one's 'face'" has nothing to do with short term orientation...

Please excuse me and shed some light on this.
Thank you so much!
Nessie.
