Gay abandon

Hi

Is the phrase "gay abandon" common among native speakers? Can we use it in casual English? How do you find this sentence?

I don't know which of these idioms are formal, informal or slang. So I use them with gay abandon.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks Alphecca!

So, am I to understand that the phrase has lost its 'flavor' among educated people? How do you find the sentence I used in my previous post?

I find it quite delightful, but unfortunately no longer usable. It is a real shame that certain lovely words get usurped by predominant usage in another context.

I've heard "with wild abandon" as a replacement occasionally.
