Gave vs prescribed

The doctor gave me some medicine for my flu.

Is "gave" acceptable? Or should it be "prescribed"?

Thanks.

Give is not acceptable IMO. Because it's not the doctor who gives you the medicine, it's the pharmacy.

That's logical, but we do often say that the doctor gave us something/some medicine.

No, 'something/some medicine' was supposed to suggest a choice between something and some medicine.

I thought you meant to suggest the choice between something and some and since I'd know this way is not correct so I mentioned this point.

[something / some medicine], not [something / some] medicine. In spite of how it may look.

Yes. After the explanation of fivejedjon I figured out that he would know the matter.
