Top answer

The doctor gave John an injection. He was very scared, so Abu gave him some courage. "Abu gave him courage" is possible, but it seems rather literary, and I'm not sure it's quite right for the style that you're writing in.

  • The doctor gave John an injection.
  • He was very scared, so Abu gave him some courage.
  • "Abu gave him courage" is possible, but it seems rather literary, and I'm not sure it's quite right for the style that you're writing in.
  • There must be other more everyday ways of putting this, perhaps along the lines of "so Abu tried to <verb> him", but annoyingly I can't seem to think of the verb that's exactly right to go here.
  • You could use "reassure" I suppose.
