Gave him a drug to sleep

Are these sentences correct:

1-They gave him a drug to sleep.
2-They gave him a job to get busy.

I say 'a drug to make him sleep' and 'a job to make him get busy'. But it seems to me that '1' and '2' work as well.

Gratefully,
Navi.

Thank you very much Meteorquake for all your replies.

How about:

2a-They gave him a job to have something to do.
2b-They gave him a job to earn some money.
He is to have something to and he is to earn some money.

Gratefully,
Navi.
