Gap of two days

What is the meaning of "after a gap of two days" ?
It seems like a simple question, but recently I encountered a mathematical problem whose given answer is really confusing.

So does it mean 3rd Jan - 5th Jan or does it mean 3rd Jan- 6th Jan ?

Hi, After a gap of two days - After a period of two days on which nothing happened. This is the literal meaning, at least. Regards

If I said "The man visits his mother after a gap of two days"(habitual action), what would that mean ?

Your sentence is very awkward but...
Here, gap means "a break in continuity."
The man visits his mother after a break (in continuity) of two days (two periods of 24 hours).
I hope this has helped you. Have a good day.
