Future tense - going to

Hi,

Do we always say "we are going to plus a verb?"

For example, we have to say," We are going to sightsee?"

It just doens't sound right.

Is it okay to say,"We are going to sightseeing?"

Thanks,

Ryan

the reason i asked is because last weekend I went through US custom and the officer asked me," what are you going to do?" That is why i feel weird to say," we are going sightseeing?"

Is it okay to say," we are going to sightsee?" Or it has to be "we are going sightseeing."

Thanks,

It is correct, but unusual to say this.

Say, "We're going to see the sights" or "We're going sightseeing".
