Hi. Could we have a future tense after the phrase "as if"? Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi. Thank you. Would help with this too? How could we come to the conclusion or say the following sentence (with the present tense after the phrase "as if") indicates that he is John?

He acts as if he is John. (He is John and acts like he is him?)

Hi,

He acts as if he is John. The indicative 'is' suggests that the speaker thinks 'he' is John.

He acts as if he were John. The subjunctive 'were' suggests the speaker thinks 'he' is possibly John, but has some doubts.
