Future or present tense

Do you know when he comes back? or Do you know when he will be back?

I am confused why in the conversation the question is in present form even though the speaker knows it would be in the future action.

CONVERSATION:

A. Do you know when he comes back?

B: I have no idea when he will be back.

The simple present tense refers to future time when the event is scheduled.

The train arrives at 8:15 this evening.
The plane leaves at 6 tomorrow morning.
He comes back from work at 5:30
