Future Continuous

Hi Everyone,

I'm onto the future continuous right now.

This is a little confusing.

I've just written the following sentence:

' While Peter sits for his Chemistry exam, his girlfriend will be working in the city.'

According to the rules, we can't use the future continuous with time clauses such as - while (for example).

I can't see anything wrong with my sentence. It doesn't sound incorrect, yet it is according to the rules.

Hard to believe this rule! Emotion: thinking

Is it true?

If so, why?

Thanks
CC.

Cup cake According to the rules Check the rule. Is it that the future continuous is not used as a verb in while-clauses? The future continuous in your sentence is in the main clause, not the while-clause.

It's possible that the rule your quoting is not correct because your sentence is correct.

I think the rule is that you can't use the future (any kind of future) in the time clause.

Oh, thanks AlpheccaStars. Emotion: embarrassed

That's where I'm going wrong; it's in the 'clause' and not the whole sentence.
